On Thursday 14th March, Y5 went to visit the extremely impressive Physics Department based at the Ogden Centre West in Durham. This was part of a combined project, with the University, Mel Connell (a local artist) and our school.
The pupils have spent time with Professors, Dr Lorraine Coghill from the University, as well as Post Graduate Students, on a project entitled ‘Changing Cosmic Perceptions’, in order to gain a deeper understanding about space; including galaxies, black holes and planets. This has taken place over 3 months and the visit to the Centre was a culmination of ideas in order to produce the artwork, which will hopefully be ready by the end of June.
The Ogden Centre, an architectural masterpiece, designed by the famous Daniel Libeskind, (Ground Zero, New York) was fascinating and the pupils enjoyed a tour, meeting some of the amazing physicists and, in addition were treated to some amazing shows produced by the Post Graduate students.
A fabulous day. Look out for the photos in the Year 5 gallery – coming soon!
